Installation & Photography, 2025
Commissioned by The 14th Taipei Biennial
For the 14th Taipei Biennial, Wu Chia-Yun created a rock garden installation with photographic works. With a background in film set design, she arranges the space like a movie scene, paying attention to detail, mood, and storytelling. Artificial gardens and rocks have special meaning in Qing Dynasty. Since the 17th century, Taiwanese ancestors who left southern China, longing for their homeland, have recreated Chinese-style gardens in their new environment. These gardens became a way to hold onto memory and identity. Over time, they have developed into a mix of feelings, traditions, and imagination.
